February has been a busy month, packed with coursework, presentations, and diving deeper into pharmacology. One of the most interesting topics we covered was Type 2 Diabetes, particularly the GLP-1 receptor agonists. These medications, like semaglutide and tirzepatide, have been a huge focus lately—not just in medicine but in pop culture too. It seems like everyone wants to be on these “shots”, no matter if it is for diabetes management or weight loss. I really did enjoy the lectures given to us as well as learning about these drug’s mechanisms. Or, more specifically how they enhance insulin secretion and slow gastric emptying, has been really interesting to me. It’s wild to see how a medication initially developed for diabetes has become such a hot topic everywhere. I’m usually not the biggest fan of our independent studies but the independent study topics we’ve had this month have been so fascinating I’ve been eager to get a head start on all of them LOL.

On top of that, this semester has been full of presentations—and February alone had me standing in front of a room three different times!! As an introvert, public speaking has always been nerve-wracking for me. It’s something I’ve struggled with, and every time I have to present, I feel that familiar anxiety creeping in. But with each one, I’m realizing that it’s getting a little easier. I still get nervous, but I’m starting to find my voice and feel more confident. I know it’s a skill I’ll need in the field of healthcare so even though it’s uncomfortable now, I know it’ll pay off in the long run.

With all of that, though, I am so ready for Mardi Gras and spring break. This is my first time being home for the whole Mardi Gras season since high school, and I can’t wait to enjoy the parades, spend time with family and friends, and just soak in the energy of New Orleans. Plus, after this intense month, I need a week to just relax—no studying, no work, just time to recharge. Here’s to making it through February and finally getting a well-earned break!
